Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
It was the inventive cheapness of the time. Brilliant, though I can see why it dies out though. When they started trying to go for more accuracy (as things got cheaper) a removable one made more sense.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
Yeah, I think they found that if they were to carry on hollowing out the arm to fit the sabre in it would cost them more and more. By 1980, however, they started using the hand held sabres. Personally I prefer the telescoping ones; the fact that the vintage figures are so simplistic yet Vader, Luke and Ben all have this advanced mechanism (for the time). It's just cool to see advanced and primitive features in the same toy. A beautiful paradox!

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
I personally prefer a detachable one. I've always liked to be able to tale things off something else. As a small child I always look the clothes off toys. I got very irritated when the small chicken wouldn't come of its Duplo (LEGO for small kids) green stand. The non-detachable light saber would bug me as a new toy that is supposed to be authentic. However, that cool, drop-down light saber looks good and is actually quite nice with the simple design. As I said, it was probably as they could make more authentic figures on the cheap, that they realised an attached gun or saber looked a bit weird.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
I agree that it wouldn't be right for today's action figures but I still like the fact that they used it back then. It makes it more retro and vintage.

*Looks in diary*
I'm free this Wednesday. I'll leave my garden gate unlocked so you can just come in through the back garden. Feel through to smash the kitchen window and break in. I'll leave a sandwich on the side for you and some tea. If you want anything from the fridge just take your pick, however please don't go into my bedroom as that's my... private area. I'll leave the figures in a plastic shopping bag for you all nicely organised so you can take them easily. Unfortunately I can't be there as I have this horrid thing we call 'school' but feel free to do as you like. Happy robbery!

Not.

Ha ha. Scary, that last comment was gold. Mind you, stealing those figures is pretty tempting. Retro and old is the new modern and new!

It sort of is! What with Hasbro's new vintage-style line for the Star Wars figures and they're reproduction of the original Boba Fett figure... More children from our generation are being introduced to the heritage of Star Wars' merchandise. Vintage is very nostalgic and it's nice to see people of all ages appreciate it.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
I love the new 'old' line if you get my meaning. I love the idea of introducing younger people to the old style of toys and the fact that people who remember them can have them again. Brilliant.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
Agreed, TFD!
My Landspeeder arrived today! Love it to bits!

There's a bit of damage as can be seen below but I bought it to play with anyway so I don't mind too much.

Here's my review of it:

How much did the Landspeeder cost?
Thanks!

Only £18.50. A 100% fantastic condition one would be about £50.00. The quality of mine is alright so I think I got a bargain to be honest.

That's fantastic value.
Did you get it on Ebay?
I did indeed, it's the only place that I can get vintage figures unfortunately. The prices aren't too bad sometimes but they can sky high. Guess I got lucky this time.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
Awesome. You make me more and more jealous. Reminds me a little of the Whomobile.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
That picture... Wasn't the WhoMobile... I've removed it now... It was disgusting and I shan't even describe it... However I know you didn't purposely post it, TFD, because the link said 'Whomobile' in it... But that image that was there was horrible....
Anyway, yes, I guess it does resemble the Who Mobile a little.

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
I am so sorry. What happened? I thought that was the Whomobile. That what I saw the picture of. I am so sorry. Could you PM me of what happened? I need to know so it doesn't happen again. Bloomin' 'eck. I wonder what could have happened.
Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
Got my Jawa the other week! Also, remember I mentioned I got Bossk but he smelt of mold? Well I left him outside for over a month now and the smell is 90% gone!
Here's some pics anyhow.
Boba and Bossk were casually scaring Jawas, like bounty hunters do....

"Good work" Boba complimented his good friend.

But from the shadows.... The REAL Bossk is watching his friend Boba kill Jawas with an IMPOSTER!

"Boba, it's me!"

"But this is Bossk..." Boba was puzzled. The fake Bossk waved.

"I was kidnapped by Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian - they wanted information about where Han's carbonite block was!" Bossk explained.
"So who's this guy then?" Boba questioned.

"Yoda I am, undercover to find information on Empire I was! Hmmmmmm!!!"

The two bounty hunters ran away in fear of this ugly creature....

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!
Very good. I read somewhere that the original Boba was meant to have a mini missile come out of his back, but a child died after choking or it becoming lodged in their brain when a few prototypes were sent out. The removed the springs and missile and glued everything down, then sent them out. The few prototypes that there are go few hundreds of thousands of dollars all because no official release of them exists. Imagine having one of them, eh?

Re: Vintage Palitoy/Kenner Star Wars Toys!

Yup, you're right. However people didn't choke on the Star Wars ones, they choked on some other toy that was released at the same time... Some Japanese toy line I think.
My guide book says the prototype Boba is worth £2800 but my guide is almost 7 years old.

However, Hasbro reproduced it with the rocket firing back pack just last year and offered it as a mail-away exclusive. I actually have it.

The original is on the left and Hasbro's rocket firing reproduction is on the right.
And this is the original 1979 advert for it...

Introducing the Death Star Space Station playset!
This is the set that was taking forever to arrive and the one I'm having trouble with on eBay at the moment, but considering this was my main Christmas present I'm glad to finally have it.
There'll be a full lot of photos soon!
